The integumentary system is an organ system consisting of the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands. The skin is only a few millimeters thick and is by far the largest organ in the body. Their are many functions of the integumentary system such as the three layers, and the components such as the melanocytes, hair follicles, sweat glands, etc.
THE THREE LAYERS OF THE SKIN
The Epidermis
The Epidermis is the outer layer of the skin. It provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. It makes new skin cells, and protects your body.

The DermisThe Dermis is beneath the epidermis. It gives the skin the flexibility and strength. It is much thicker than the Epidermis and does a lot for your body.

The Subcutaneous FatThe Subcutaneous Fat layer is the bottom layer. It attaches the dermis to your muscles and bones. It also helps the blood vessels and nerve cells. The Subcutaneous Fat layer also controls your body temperature and stores your fat.
